Creating a textured surface on canvas..

Today I used my plasterers trowel to create a nice layer of acrylic paint surface. The canvas is 60x80 cm on stretched bars. I enjoy this stage of surface prepping. You can use any tools from hardware store that you think would be good to create unintentional marks and scratches some of the tools artists use:

•catalyst wedge or colour shaper

•comb or brush

•fork

•tree branch (pick up/off the ground)

•stones or rock

•mark making scraper

•steel brush (for cleaning pots/pans)

•ends of your painting brush

•nails

•your hands

The key thing here is giving yourself a chance to experiment and discover which tool gives you the best surface texture you’re aiming for and have fun while doing it! Do let me know which ones you’ve discovered. If you’re sharing on IG do tag me because I’m keen to know and learn from you! Enjoy your art making!
